Dramatist and actor David Wood OBE will give free talk at Truro Library
DUBBED 'the national children's dramatist', David Wood OBE will be giving a free talk at Truro Community Library on Saturday 24 July.
The talk has been arranged in the lead up to the run of his stage adaptation of Roald Dahl's George's Marvellous Medicine at Hall for Cornwall in early August.
Come along and meet David and learn how to turn a fantastic Dahl novel into a brilliant play. During the talk David will take you through this fascinating process and answer your questions. The session is a must for all ages – whether you are a budding playwright or a fan of Dahl's work. The session is recommended for anyone aged 7yrs plus.
David Wood has adapted seven Dahl novels for the stage including The BFG, Danny Champion of the World and James and the Giant Peach. In total he has written 70 plays - including The Tiger Who Came To Tea - for children and which have been performed worldwide. David has also written for radio and television - as well as film screenplays and novels. He has also enjoyed a successful career as an actor - most famously appearing in Lindsay Anderson's cult film If.
In 2004 he was awarded an OBE for services to literature and drama in the Queen's birthday honours. In 2006 he wrote The Queen's Handbag, a play to celebrate the Queen's 80th birthday. It was performed by an all-star cast in Buckingham Palace Gardens at the Children's Party at the Palace, and seen live on BBC 1 by 8,000,000 television
The session will run from 2-3pm at Truro Community Library (Children's Library). Please note that although this is a FREE event, tickets will need to be reserved by popping into the library or by calling 0300 1234 100 and asking for the Truro Branch.
