Scarf Update Thursday 17th May
Thank you to all our intrepid knitters who are working hard to help us reach our target mileage. We know there are many people out there enthusiastically knitting long sections for us - and we've had some fantastic sections dropped into HfC recently as well. Your help is much appreciated and will result in a stunning visual representation of what can be achieved when people come together on a project.
All of this knitting and wool will be put to very good use at the end of the project too, when the scarf will be made into blankets for Cornwall Care and Friends of the Elderly.

We also wish to thank Cornish Wools who have become the first local company to sponsor one of our Knitting Ambassadors. Cornish Wools are a new company, based in Perranuthnoe near Marazion, their website and online shop is now available for you to view. (Click HERE) See their unique range of Cornish knitting yarns made from local sheep and alpaca fleece and choose from branded knitting yarns, knitting patterns and accessories and while you are there why not check out their blog. Discover the facinating background to the Cornish Wools knitting yarn production, it really is a case of from 'Farm to Yarn' . (Click HERE).
Official Scarf Specifications
Guinness have confirmed the specifications for the world record attempt. The scarf segments must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the world record attempt:
1. Needles must be 4 mm (No. 8 UK). Casting must be done in the conventional way using two needles.
2. Garter stitch must be used as this record is attempted by both beginners and accomplished knitters. Scarves in rib stitch may be considered, but the number of stitches per row would need to be adjusted accordingly.
3. Number of stitches per row - 66 (in garter stitch).
4. Width – 30.5 cm (12 in).
Want to get involved? start by getting in touch! Email us at info@reallylongscarf.org.uk for information on how you can contribute. We're particularly keen to find volunteer Knitting Ambassadors to help spread the word and assemble the segments into a single length of scarf!
Staff here are beginning to flex their knitting fingers and we have an "Office Scarf" people are adding to on their breaks.
