In May 2013, Hall for Cornwall was awarded £500,000 over five years by The Paul Hamlyn Foundation, in order to support audience development activity across Cornwall, targeting communities and groups who may not usually have the means to visit theatre.
Various initiatives have been developed to support this work including Community Club Membership, discounted ticket schemes/vouchers, behind the scenes events, relaxed performances and the establishment of a pre-show Community Social Club.
Hall for Cornwall's Community Club
FREE first-time theatre visits
Since 2013, Hall for Cornwall’s Community Club has worked with community groups of all ages, offering free tickets for first-time visits to the theatre.
Exclusive offers and events
1,500 people have now signed up as members of our Community Club following their first group visit.
Club members benefit from exclusive offers of workshops, tours, talks and discounted tickets for Hall for Cornwall shows. In return, we simply ask for participants’ feedback on their visits.
Improved access and inclusion for community groups
We are especially committed to supporting community members who face social exclusion or barriers to visiting the theatre. We want to learn about different people’s experiences and perceptions of the theatre, to help us develop our offer and our welcome to all.
Feedback from Community Club members:
“All these years I have wanted to go to the opera and have never been able to afford it. It’s amazing to be able to access free and discounted tickets” Club member booking for a pre-show talk
“I’m so glad ‘Coastline’ was able to do this... It gave us a chance to have fun, have a laugh and to come and see a show we usually wouldn’t be able to. I’m glad I had this opportunity. Five stars from me! Coastline client on One Man Two Guvnors
“It was a great day out! It meant a lot to us as a family. My son actually sat through the whole show and didn't take his eyes off the stage. It's amazing what a difference less sound and more light makes! Thank you for giving my son this opportunity”.
