BBC Culture in Quarantine: Swan Lake Bath Ballet

Elite dancers from across the globe create a modern-day Swan Lake from their own bathtubs.

Set to Tchaikovsky's famous swan theme, 27 elite ballet dancers from renowned dance companies perform a modern-day Swan Lake from their own home (filled) baths. Award-winning choreographer Corey Baker worked with dancers across the globe to choreograph and film Swan Lake Bath Ballet completely remotely during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Gecko's feature film Institute on BBC Four

In collaboration with Illuminations, The Space and BBC Arts, Gecko present their debut feature film Institute, an intimate, funny and moving exploration of what it means to care.

Based on the internationally acclaimed theatre production, Gecko’s Artistic Director Amit Lahav has created a brand new intoxicating world of breath-taking choreography and uniquely beautiful cinematography that visually captivates and poetically dissects the way we nurture and care for ourselves and each other.

Institute premieres on BBC Four on Sunday, 19 July 2020 at 11.10pm and will also be available on BBC iPlayer.

Royal Shakespeare Company: Playmaking Festival

Each year the RSC invites young people from the Associate Schools programme to take part in the Playmaking Festival. This year they can’t hold the festival in person so instead they will share some of the young people’s work online.

Over 100 young people from 75 schools were set a series of five creative challenges based on Shakespeare's work - Some pupils from Treviglas Academy in Newquay have been featured in this video inspired by The Taming of the Shrew.

You can view the video on the Treviglas Academy Facebook page, The Royal Shakespeare Company Facebook page, or on the RSC Website - where you can also read more about the Associate Schools programme.

Emily Alden 'Surrounded by Sound'

Back in May and in our first week of Home Is Where the He(ART) Is we shared Emily Alden's 'Surrounded by Sound' and it's too good not to share again! Tune into our associate artist Emily Alden's collection of audio recordings taken at Gyllingvase (Gylly) & Grebe beaches in Falmouth, Cornwall in early 2019. Put on some headphones, close your eyes, immerse yourself in the soothing sounds of Cornwall's beaches and be 'Surrounded by Sound'.

The Musical Theatre Young Singer Award

British composers Stiles + Drewe and The British Theatre Academy are launching a search for the next generation of West End talent.

To enter the annual Musical Theatre Young Singer Award, youngsters aged 6 – 18 from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland just need to to video themselves performing a song from any Stiles + Drewe show. Winners in both 6 – 12 and 13 – 18 categories will be crowned the UK’s Musical Theatre Young Singer of the Year and will win £200 in theatre gift vouchers.

This is a fantastic opportunity for youngsters who have been missing out on regular performing arts classes this summer due to the pandemic. Entries close on 31 July - Go for it!

Viral Sensation: Little Dads Mix

Along with thousands of others around the country, two Youth Dance members Ethel & Lily Mae and their friends were disappointed when Lockdown happened and their long-awaited trip to watch Little Mix in concert was cancelled. Not wanting to see their children upset, four brave Dads from Cornwall decided to do what all devoted Dads would do (?) and recreate a Little Mix video for their children's entertainment. Since sharing the video for friends and family last week they have now gone viral and reached over 100k views on Facebook from around the world! They have appeared in the national press and on morning TV. If you haven't seen it yet, it's a must watch!

Here's a question for you... Which one of these dazzling beauties is also HFC's Christmas Show Director?? (When he's not doing his other job in a girl band that is!)

Forever (Love is Love)

Another HFC Christmas Show creative, our Musical Director Richard Healey and friend JJ Eiø have collaborated as RHJ Entertainment to make this wonderful new song - Forever (Love is Love). The song and video features a multitude of performers from educational, professional and amateur theatre worlds - with ages ranging from of 7 to 70. RHJ Entertainment are raising funds for NHS Charities Together and the Theatre Support Fund with the song. Have a listen, we know you will enjoy it as much as we did.
