D810 "Death and the Maiden"
The Fitzwilliam Quartet is one of the longest established string quartets in the world. Their first concert was held in October 1968. By way of celebrating their 50th Anniversary in 2018 the quartet has been re-visiting many favourite venues over a period of 16 months, and Truro 3 Arts Society are delighted to be part of their celebration.
The quartet's personal relationship with Shostakovich ensures that their interpretations of his works are highly acclaimed. The Fitzwilliam Quartet has recently recorded Schubert's "Death and the Maiden" Quartet played on gut strings.
"The Fizwilliam String Quartet, in my opinion, is, and has been for many years, Britain's premier string quartet ensemble ....a flagship British ensemble that should be the pride of that nation."

Acknowledged as one of the finest piano trios in the world, Trio con Brio Copenhagen is about to enter their twentieth year. Twenty years is a milestone for any ensemble and, says Jens Elvekjaer, they all knew right from the start that they would find their musical identities as a piano trio. They quickly gained a reputation for their fresh and contemporary approach to the core repertoire.
They are regularly heard at the world's leading venues and concert series, including their beloved "home venues", the Royal Library and the Tivoli Concert Hall, in Copenhagen. Their recent recordings of Beethoven's Complete Piano Trios have received critical acclaim.
"From the first note, Trio con Brio exudes class ... both explosive and exquisitely intimate ... aspects that this performance delivers with compelling panache."

Recent seasons have seen the trio giving acclaimed performances at both the Wigmore Hall for the Park Lane Group and at the Bridgewater Hall for the Manchester Midday Concerts Society, as well as performing live on Radio 3's 'In Tune' programme.
During their time at the Royal Northern College of Music the trio have won all the major chamber music prizes, notably winning the 2010 RNCM chamber music award and the audience prize for their performances of Britten's Phantasy Quartet for Oboe and Strings. Maltese pianist Christine Zerafa first performed for Truro 3 Arts as saxophonist Amy Green's duo partner in 2017. Her passionate performance as a chamber musician inspired us to approach Christine to form a piano quartet.
Christine selected violinist Alexander Lomeiko, who coincidentally performed for us in December 2018, violist Ana Theresa Alves and cellist Yaroslava Trofymchuk.
This exciting project is a fitting conclusion to a concert series in which old and new friends alike have come together.
