Jevan Howard-Jones returns as choreographer after working with us on Peter Pan in 2023. His recent credits include Wicked (film) and The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe (West End/UK Tour), and we’re looking forward to seeing what he creates for Aladdin this Christmas. We caught up with Jevan to learn more about his professional journey, and of course what's to come this December!

Could you tell us a bit about yourself and your journey into dance and choreography?
I’ve been dancing for as long as I can remember - it genuinely feels like it runs through my veins. My journey began when I was about six at my local library. A street dance crew was performing a community showcase and I was instantly hooked. At the time, I was already training in ballet, tap, and jazz at the local dance school, but there was something about the energy of street dance that really captivated me. The music, the freedom...
From there, everything just snowballed. I spent most of my teenage years dancing with crews in London, performing at national competitions and events like Got to Dance on Sky1, the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony and various shows across the country. I went on to train at The BRIT School, and then later I trained at London Contemporary Dance School on their degree programme.
It's not just performing though. I was always choreographing and experimenting and developing my own relationship with music. Over time, my movement became this fusion of everything I'd absorbed - from hip hop, house and street styles to contemporary and jazz. That blend has shaped the artist I am today, allowing me to work, teach, and perform internationally, gain recognition in hip hop and house dance battles, and teach at choreography camps all around the world.
I really got into theatre when I became Assistant Choreographer on the national tour of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The production transferred to the West End in 2023 and I stepped into the role of Associate Choreographer. Since then, I’ve choreographed for a few off-West End productions such as Cable Street, as well as worked on screen, including performing in the upcoming Wicked movie.

You worked on the choreography for Peter Pan in 2023, what's it like to be back for another Cornwall Playhouse Productions Panto?
It’s a real pleasure to be back in Truro for another HfC Panto. There’s something so magical about Cornwall at Christmas. The atmosphere, the community and the sense of tradition. It feels wonderful to come back and be a part of what make this time of year so special.
At a time when the world can feel heavy, this story feels important to tell. Panto has a unique way of lifting spirits, bringing people together, and reminding us of the joy in that shared experience. Ending the year by creating something that can unite an audience in laughter, music, and celebration feels like a real gift.
I’m also excited to be working once again with Sara Markland and Edward Rowe, who always bring incredible energy, humour, and heart to both the rehearsal room and the stage. All in all, I’m happy to be back!
What can we expect from the choreography in Aladdin this year?
The music and this cast are the perfect recipe for something special. You can expect fresh moves, high energy and plenty of rhythm - it's gonna be a good one!
You mentioned your love for Cornwall, what would you say is your favourite beach here?
My favourite beach has got to be Perranporth - I've been there for a few unforgettable sunsets!
Aladdin runs from Fri 05 Dec to Sat -3 Jan at the Cornwall Playhouse, with tickets available to book now.
